Three Tips to End Greasy Hair

If you're reading this, it's because you probably suffer from greasy, oily hair like I did! I use to wash my hair EVERY. SINGLE. DAY! Looking back now, that seems a bit crazy to me. I now wash my hair every three days and you can too!

First things first, let's list reasons WHY your hair gets greasy after you wash it, then I will dive into why and solutions!

  1. Your hair produces too much oil

  2. You are not using the right shampoo and conditioner

  3. You do not use the right products after you wash your hair

So, let's talk about why your hair produces too much oil. There are a number of reasons why this could happen. First, you could have a medical problem (which if none of my tips work for you, maybe go see a doctor for suggestions). Second, you are washing your hair to much! YES, you heard that right, your hair CAN be washed to much! Frequently washing your hair can cause your oil glands to over produce oil, which leaves your hair looking greasy less than 24 hours after washing it.

The second reason we are going to talk about is your shampoo and conditioner. If you are using drug store products and are reading this, I am judging you (LOL). I want you to go into your bathroom RIGHT NOW and throw those bad boys away! Drug store shampoo and conditioner have ingredients that are not good for your hair, like silicone and parabens, that coat your hair and never truly clean your hair like it needs to be. You need to invest in a good shampoo and conditioner. My favorite is the Living Proof line. I recommend it to all my clients! They have a line for every hair type... and no, I am not an affiliate of them. I just REALLY love their products! Anyways... I would suggest in getting a shampoo that caters to your hair type (thin, frizzy, damaged, normal) and then a conditioner that matches that problem. If you have super silky hair, the Amika Sexture Texturizing Shampoo works miracles!! Trust Me (and ask my mom lol)!

The last reason I am going to talk about is your products you use AFTER you wash your hair. Always start with a detangle/heat protectant. I personally use Living Proofs Restore Perfecting Spray. It's not too heavy and does not weigh my hair down BUT avoid using it around your scalp! You do not want to use anything oily on the scalp. If your hair is dry or frizzy, you can still use oil, just keep it on the ends. If you have thin hair, do not use a foam volumizer, use a spray volumizer. My favorite is the Living Proof Full Root Lift. It doesn't weight my hair down and it gives my roots just enough grit to hold the volume.

Next, I am going to talk about the life changing product: DRY SHAMPOO! Finally, the good stuff that is going to help you go LONGER between washes! As always, I use Living Proof Dry Shampoo. Why? Because it absorbs oil and sweat and makes my hair look and feel clean. If you purchase this dry shampoo, make sure you READ THE DIRECTIONS! (This actually goes for all products) Anyways... dry shampoo is made to help you go longer between washes. When you wake up in the morning, spray it on the roots of your hair and massage in. Like I mentioned earlier, it's important to read directions because Living Proof's Dry Shampoo needs to wait 30 seconds before massaging in but every dry shampoo is different, so use accordingly. If you notice your hair is super greasy in the mornings, spray some dry shampoo in your hair before you go to sleep AND when you wake up until your hair gets used to not being washed every day and your oil glands level out.

Now combine all these tips together to help you achieve your hair goals!!!
